Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)

Hormones play an important role in various bodily functions, and maintaining appropriate hormone levels is essential for optimum health and slowing down the ageing process. It is becoming increasingly accepted that we age prematurely because our hormone levels are imbalanced, and that if we restore hormone levels to the optimal range we avoid many of the ageing diseases.

Hormone deficiency has been linked to diseases like Diabetes Mellitus,Dementia,Osteoporosis and others.Additionally, low testosterone levels may be associated with Prostate cancer and low progesterone levels with Breast cancer.

Menopause (in women) and andropause (in men) are the primary indications for BHRT. However any of the following could indicate hormonal imbalance:

  • Fatigue
  • Irritability
  • Sleep problems
  • Weight gain,in spite of watching what you eat
  • Thinning/brittle hair
  • Reduced sexual desire/function
  • Stress related anxiety or exhaustion
  • PMS symptoms such as headache, water retention, stomach cramps
  • Tender breasts
  • Cold hands or feet

These symptoms may indicate the need for hormone replenishment.

Your body′s health is controlled by a symphony of inter−related hormonal systems. These include three different thyroid hormones, sex hormones including oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone, adrenal hormones, immune hormones, brain hormones and sleep hormones.

Each hormone system affects the other. Focusing merely on correcting one hormone system only, as is common practice, usually puts the other hormones out of balance. Therefore, it is important to address hormonal balance holistically, measuring the hormones of a number of hormonal systems and restoring balance to them all.

We will perform tests to detect any imbalance and then provide treatment aimed at restoring hormone balance and getting to the underlying causes of medical problems, rather than merely treating the symptoms.

What are Bioidentical Hormones?

The chemical structure is the same as that produced by the human body. As each person′s response to hormone therapy is unique, it is important that HRT is carefully monitored using saliva, blood or urine tests.
